The end-user experience monitoring market hit an estimated $5 billion in 2026 and is projected to reach $9.1 billion by 2030. Those aren't vanity numbers. They represent a fundamental shift in how digital businesses think about performance, moving from "is the server up?" to "is the customer's experience actually working?"

What the $5B market signal actually means

The number comes from Grand View Research's "End User Experience Monitoring Market Report, 2025-2030", last updated this July. Their estimate: the market was worth $3.9 billion in 2024, is on track for $5.0 billion in 2026, and is forecast to hit $9.1 billion by 2030, a 15.7% compound annual growth rate from 2025 through the end of the decade.

End user experience monitoring is a broader category than eCommerce-specific RUM. It spans synthetic monitoring, real user monitoring, and session replay, delivered across both web and mobile (mobile is the fastest-growing segment, at a 17.1% CAGR), and increasingly deployed from the cloud rather than on-premises infrastructure.

The report's own explanation for the growth is straightforward: as organisations move to cloud-native and hybrid infrastructure, application performance becomes more dynamic and harder for IT teams to see. It also flags a real risk on the other side of that investment: without AI-assisted prioritisation, the flood of logs and alerts these tools generate can overwhelm teams and bury the issues that actually matter.

Retail gets a specific mention. The report calls out that retail and BFSI firms in particular lean on real user monitoring and session analytics to identify friction points and reduce cart abandonment. In other words, this isn't eCommerce vendors talking their own book; it's a market research firm independently naming eCommerce as one of the categories driving billions in monitoring spend.

From server metrics to customer metrics

For years, performance monitoring in eCommerce meant watching server response times, uptime percentages, and error logs. If the server returned a 200 status code, the page was "working." If Pingdom said the homepage loaded in 2.1 seconds from a data centre in Virginia, performance was "fine."

But as monitoring web performance recently emphasised, the gap between synthetic test results and real user experience can be enormous. Core Web Vitals, the metrics Google uses as ranking factors, are measured from real users' browsers, not from synthetic bots. Your Lighthouse score in a lab environment tells you very little about what a customer on a 4G connection in rural England experiences when they try to complete checkout.
